The study assessed the existing faecal sludge management (FSM) landscape to support its integration into the Kathmandu Valley Wastewater Master Plan. It involved mapping private desludging services, analyzing sectoral strengths and challenges through a SWOT analysis, and assessing capacity gaps among service providers and regulatory officials using a competency framework. Additionally, technical support was provided for developing an FSM investment plan in collaboration with the client and the CIAMP2 consultant team, focusing on institutional challenges, service constraints, and opportunities for private sector participation.
