Citywide Sanitation Planning
We specialize in developing comprehensive citywide or municipal-level sanitation plans. Our approach is rooted in a multi-stakeholder, evidence-based decision-making process that begins with the establishment of a citywide sanitation task force, led by the municipality. This task force includes elected officials, local sanitation champions, representatives from user groups, community-based organizations (CBOs), and marginalized communities.
As part of the planning process, we carry out:
-
1. Various situational assessments using a range of tools and methods to understand the local environmental sanitation context
-
2. Prioritization of needs based on local assessments and extensive stakeholder consultations
-
3. Analysis and selection of suitable sanitation systems
-
4. Identification of feasible combinations of services
-
5. Development of a phased implementation plan
Each stage of the planning process embraces a participatory approach to capturing local perspectives, building on community knowledge, and co-designing solutions that are practical, affordable, and tailored to local conditions.
