Project Overview:

System Strengthening & Technical Support to Advance CWIS in Municipalities is a technical assistance initiative implemented in collaboration with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and WaterAid Nepal (WAN), providing consultancy support to the Ministry of Water Supply, the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management, and six municipalities across Nepal. The project advances Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) by strengthening municipal sanitation governance, enhancing data systems and performance monitoring, and promoting inclusive and equitable service delivery, with a strong focus on faecal sludge and wastewater management. Key interventions include the development of municipal sanitation laws and bylaws, preparation of business plans for faecal sludge treatment plants, establishment of a CWIS-aligned sanitation monitoring framework integrated with the NWASH system, and the collection and analysis of sanitation and treatment plant performance data. The project also assesses sanitation access among urban poor communities to inform inclusive planning and regulatory improvements, aligned with national frameworks, the WASH Regulation 2025, and CWIS principles.

Current Activities:

  • Enumerator Training for conducting  Sanitation Situation Assessment.
  • Drafting of Municipality regulatory instruments.
